Here’s this week’s brief:
Collaboration initiatives mobilize…
…a diverse group of people with a variety of skills and the benefits are plenty, but it can also presents myriad difficulties. Some of the key points to keep in mind when practicing collaboration that will help you enjoy the benefits of teamwork without the drawbacks are surrounding yourself with people unlike you and remembering the importance of expertise. The question leaders need to be…
…asking themselves today is does your organization know how to transform as the needs of your customers change? The 21st century employee has a voice inside and outside the organizations, collaborates and co-creates with others, has a robust connected community, learns through dialogue and wants flexibility. We need to move away from antiquated management practices so we can tap into the hearts and minds of people who want to do their lifework, as Ayelet Baron puts it. More social collaboration leads to…
…more ideas. When people are able to collaboratively use a platform without interference from a manager then the entire enterprise is in really good shape. And this works great in younger, smaller organizations like startups, but not that much for big enterprises because of the old management practices that include silo thinking and a hierarchical culture. And the CHRO might be a good change promoter since the core responsibility of HR is to engage the workforce to execute the company’s vision, mission and strategy. The enterprise technology landscape…
…has changed in just a year. While some priorities remain unchanged, important new players have emerged that business and IT leaders must consider in their plans this year, so Dion Hinchcliffe came up with a list of 21 enterprise technologies to watch for 2015. And yes, team collaboration has made it this year, along with hybrid cloud, wearable IT and new types of cyber security. The growth of this year’s list list, the author believes, means that we need much higher bandwidth mechanisms in our organizations to absorb, adapt to, and or transform with the increasingly high-leverage technologies are businesses are facing. When a city doubles in population…
…innovation and creativity increase by 15 percent per capita. This is the opposite of what happens to a company. Zappos CEO Tony Hsieh was intrigued by that piece of information. He knew he had to change his management style to transform the company to resemble more like a city. It took a while, it was painful, but the results have shown that is was the right call. Zappos has always been ahead of the game. “Create fun and a little weirdness” was one of their ten commandments.
